The MART of Rovereto
Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trentino
Mart is the flagship of Trentino museums. Renowned around the world, it attracts many visitors from Italy and abroad every year and it showcases some of the most exclusive art collections in Europe, such as the exhibition of the Impressionists held in 2011.
Designed by the famous Swiss architect Mario Botta in collaboration with Giulio Andreolli, the Mart covers an area of approximately 12,000 square meters, of which 6,000 are used for exhibition areas of the art of the 20th and 21st centuries and more than 5,000 are used as spaces for teaching, research and services.
On the ground floor you will find the reception, the information area, the cafeteria with the bookshop and the conference room. In the basement there is the library and the archive of the 1900s. On the first floor there are areas dedicated to temporary exhibitions, the didactic section and offices. Finally, on the second floor, the permanent collection of the museum is exhibited, a collection of about twenty thousand works that have characterized Italian and international art from the 19th century to Futurism up to the present day.
The museum's teaching section takes care of workshops not only for the public, but also for schools and families, as well as refresher courses for teachers, guided tours and educational exhibitions.
